If you’re a podcaster who’s worth your salt, I’m willing to bet my mic and headphones that one of your main goals is to expand your reach. It’s a given! And rightfully so; building the reputation and visibility of your message is essential to the growing success of your podcast. Yet we’re surprised to find that many of the guys and gals in our community are not maximizing their potential by taking advantage of a really intuitive strategy – repurposing your podcast content!

“re·pur·pose

/rēˌpərpəs/

verb

Adapt for use in a different purpose.”

Repurposing your content is all about reaching relevant people; those who will engage with the expertise you offer, the product you sell, or the entertainment you provide. The chief goal of repurposing your content is to reach new listeners. This is arguably one of the greatest ways to maximise your podcast content. Why wouldn’t you! Your loyal followers deserve nothing short of your best, and so do your potential followers. Yes! You have a whole untapped world of potential followers! Tap into it with the power of repurposing your podcast.

Think of repurposing your content as casting an even wider net into the ocean of listeners, viewers, and consumers. And we’re here to help you along your expedition. We want to make sure you reel in the biggest catch possible.

So in today’s blog, we’ve provided a straightforward breakdown of Six of The Most Effective Ways to Repurpose Your Podcast Content.

So let’s dive in and catch some fish!

6 Effective Ways to Repurpose Your Podcast Content.

1. Transcripts

One amazingly simple and effective way to repurpose your content is to make a transcript of your podcast audio. A transcript is a verbatim rendering of everything you shared, discussed, argued, or presented in your awesome show. Basically, your audio is converted to a word-for-word text document.

This is a hugely effective means of repurposing content, as it’s not only shareable to many more platforms, but, unlike digital audio files, the contents of your transcript is indexed in everyone’s favorite search engines. So now your content is searchable – can someone say Search Engine Optimization?!  This will bump your SEO rankings, make your creation more accessible to those who may not be able to consume audio content, and make you so much more quotable.

Transcripts also set you up perfectly for…

2. Blog Posts

Blogging is a great example of adapting your content for use in a different purpose.  Just think, you’ve already got the title, the content, and even the transcript, so let’s pivot and get to blogging!

But be careful not to fall into the copy and paste trap as the tone, structure, and flow of a blog will differ from that of your raw transcript. A blog post is a stand alone medium in its own right.  But with minimal tweaking and adjusting, you’ll have a powerful piece of repurposed content that you can use to provide value, extend your reach, and drive readers back to your pillar content – your amazing podcast.

Another way to dive deeper into the content of your podcast is through…

3. Live Question and Answer Sessions

Let’s face it, our world has changed post 2020, and everything from conferences to Christmas parties have found a place on video conferencing applications such as Zoom, Google Meet or Skype. Imagine with me: a live Q&A session hosted by you, Superstar Podcaster, with listeners and followers who want to further engage with you on the topic of your last episode.  You can invite your recent guests, or bring on an expert to tackle difficult questions that arose from your last conversation.  You could even take the Question and Answer session to a more public forum and go live on Facebook or Instagram, and bypass the need for invites altogether potentially reaching individuals who may never even have heard of your amazing show.

This is a really special way of repurposing your content as you will be able to engage directly and dynamically with listeners, unearth new revelations by opening up the conversation, get new ideas and inspirations for episodes, or receive feedback be it affirmation or critique.  It also communicates a powerful message to your audience that you care about their voice! Meaning your brand/platform/movement/community is one worth buying into.

4. Images and Infographics

This method of repurposing is another dramatic example of the evolution of your podcast content: turning your audio in infographics, image quotes, or even memes!  The beauty of this method is that it allows you to create a piece of content that is visually compelling and eye-catching, something that cannot be accomplished with podcast audio.

An infographic is a compilation of minimal text and explanatory images that serve to give an accessible, easy-to-digest overview of a general topic. These are particularly great for an informative podcast where you would like to highlight and communicate a key piece of info that the world must know!

Image quotes are where the words take centre stage; highlight that pithy statement, controversial opinion, catchy quote, deep truth, or hilarious joke! It has to be short enough to be synthesized and understood at the speed of a casual scroll, but still weighty enough to leave an impact worthy of the spotlight on your potential listener’s feed.

Memes are typically a still image with bold text emblazoned at the top and bottom of the frame that capture and communicate an emotion, experience, feeling, or thought.  Memes are funny!  They’re relatable and typically touch on a sentiment that resonates in a meaningful way with the viewer. And they are hyper-shareable! Memes are great ways of packaging your content in a bite-size container, and they can be created easily with a simple meme generator app.

Now, imagine a meme on steroids, and you get…

5. Audiograms

Question 1: Who is the number one podcast listening platform?

Answer:….YouTube!1

After creating and publishing your awesome podcast show the natural next step is to upload it to your hosting platform, be it Apple, Amazon, Spotify, or Stitcher.  But there’s another big player that should not be ignored: YouTube. This figure from a 2019 University of Florida study tells us that 18 to 54 year olds are finding their fave podcast shows…on a video sharing platform?! That’s right!  Podcasting Superstar, it’s time for you to get in on the action and repurpose your podcast content for a new platform.

Question 2: But I only have an audio file, I haven’t recorded video for my podcast. How can I possibly upload my content to a video sharing site?

Answer:…Audiograms!

Turn your audio file into an Audiogram.  An audiogram can be likened to a meme on steroids! It’s typically a still image or graphic, accompanied by an animated waveform, over which you can play your awesome podcast audio. This is a sure fire, easy way to repurpose your content to get it on YouTube and other video sharing platforms.

And here’s an added benefit: now that you’ve repurposed your podcast into an audiogram, you are not limited to only podcasting hosting and video sharing sites, you’ve now created a piece of media that is easy-to-share on social platforms!

And last, but not least, please do not underestimate the power of…

6. Social Media

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok – the ocean of potential listeners is vast and teeming with potential! And – to keep our handy fishing analogy alive – in order for this to work, you have to go to the best “fishing holes”; in our digital era you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better place than social media sites.

According to a statistics round up compiled by Brian Dean, as of 2021, the number of people using social media is over 3.96 billion worldwide, with the average user having 8.6 accounts on different networking sites.2 These are astounding figures, and a huge reason for you to leverage your podcast content on these powerful platforms. But in order to bring the party to the people (aka, bring your podcast content to more listeners on these platforms) you must repurpose your podcast.

Think of your podcast as a strategic piece of content marketing – this will serve to increase both awareness of and engagement with your message. Go where your people are! Post your audiogram to Instagram, go live on Facebook Live and host your Question and Answer Session, link your transcripts and blog posts to LinkedIn, or imagine the power of your memes on Twitter! This is the power of repurposing your content!

And while it does take a little time and strategic planning, the outcome is definitely worth it!

We want you to deliver your podcast content to as many ears as possible, and through some strategic repurposing, you can also deliver it to as many eyes as possible, too.
